On the 17th, 18th and 19th of March, the 8th edition of the Saut Hermès, an internationally acclaimed obstacle competition, will take place beneath the magnificent canopy of the Grand Palais nave. It’s a dazzling way to pay tribute to the founder of the famous House and state harness maker and saddler. Why not book at stay at Le Burgundy Paris which is just minutes from the event?

Thierry Hermes – horses in his blood

Back in 1837, Thierry Hermès, a native of a small town near Düsseldorf, came to Paris and set up his saddle and harness factory. His sons, grandsons and great-grandsons then went on to take the reins of the business – with the same exclusive taste, know-how and commitment to perfection. They expanded their range with silk vests for jockeys, leather luggage and sports clothing for women – a great fashion industry first. However, the horse is still king. As one of the House’s representatives bluntly put it, “Our first customer is the horse, the second, the rider”.

Come and cheer them on!

Whether you’re a riding enthusiast or an interested spectator, you won’t want to miss this incredible experience. Illuminated by the Grand Palais dome, horses and riders rush forward and fly elegantly over the obstacle course.  You’ll be entranced by the rider’s voices and hypnotised by the clacking rhythm of the horse’s hooves as they trot by. Each rider is proud and assured yet also keenly aware of his animal’s fragility – clenching fists and ensuring that everything happens at precisely the best moment for both horse and man. The programme, the technique, the performance, the spectacle, and the emotion – the mysterious beauty of being touched by a situation without quite understanding exactly why. After the moving display, there’s nothing quite like the cosy comfort of your room at Le Burgundy Paris ...
